The economic empowerment of women is closely linked to their mental health. ACT organized an interactive art activity in partnership with Ummeed Child Development Center for our tribal women in Dadra & Nagar Haveli to mobilise the community and address issues of mental health & child development in a fun, engaging way. As always, we cherish your contributions that have enabled us to build capacity among the tribal women.
We're happy to share that our project Samruddhi - Livelihood Empowerment skills for 100 tribal women had a site visitor from Global Giving, who spent a whole day meeting our project supervisors, visiting villages and homes, having a home made lunch with our beneficiary's family and even being delighted to visit beneficiary Kamli's organic Mango farm to see the huge mangoes akin to the fruits of our project, which are thanks to you, dear donor! In addition to the past accreditations, we received the 'Site visited, vetted and verified' badge of honour! We are truly grateful to Abhijith the Global Giving Volunteer visitor, who made some astute observations and helpful suggestions to help improve the project effectiveness and overcome beneficiaries' challenges. In his words,
"Greetings,
I would love to use this opportunity to thank you, for opening the doors of your organization and walk me through all the amazing work Animedh Charitable Trust is doing to help the people of Dadar and Nagar Haveli earn an alternate source of livelihood. It was an enlightening experience conversing with Nivedita ma’am to understand the organizations fundraising efforts, goals, and plans. My hope is that I was able to answer most of your questions related to the GlobalGiving platform and help introduce you to the new features that GlobalGiving has to offer. I would like to also take this opportunity to thank Sister Usha and the other sister(Sorry I cannot remember her name) for organizing and accompanying me on the field to see and experience organic farming, dairy farming, and poultry farming. The opportunity to converse with the program team helped me understand the many issues organizations face in regards to support from governmental agencies. It also helped me understand the difficulties faced by people every day."
Based on Abhijith's feedback we created a survey template to investigate the challenges of our beneficiaries w.r.t. their vocational activity - dairy farming and poultry farming. Our implementation partner, Premankur informed that due to onset of monsoon, it is not a suitable time for the survey to be conducted in field as the beneficiaries will all be totally busy with their farming activity and will not be available. Hence we decided to start the survey in Mid August.
Since the challenges that emerged were to do with cows not yielding enough milk to be profitable and hens dying due to disease, we reached out to the government of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and the Head of Animal Husbandry division, Dr. Vijay Parmar to offer solutions and also to address the beneficiaries meeting to resolve some concerns relating to improving yield, subsidized animal feed, sale options beyond Government Dairy and profit potential. He also made a valuable suggestion to develop one or two highly motivated and successful examples of dairy farming, poultry farming or organic vegetable farming in each village cluster and seeing their success others will be motivated to follow. This concentration of effort on the lead beneficiaries will bring better focus and results will be far reaching.
To improve our direct access to the project beneficiaries, assess needs and measure outcomes more accurately, we recruited Sara for the role of outreach coordinator with a graduate degree in social work and 3 years' experience of working in tribal areas with other NGOs, and hails from Dhamangav tribal village closeby. She joined on July 17 and underwent an induction program and an exposure visit with the project resource persons as well as project leader to SETCO Foundation, and will initiate the aforementioned survey by mid- August. Sara will be based in Khanvel- DNH. She will lead the survey and data collection mentioned above. She will lead M&E to understand the impact of our intervention on our 100+ women beneficiaries.
Mina is a dairy farmer from Talavli village. Saku grows organic okra crop in a tiny hamlet of Khutli village. These women have overcome poverty, societal resistance & gender inequality to create earning opportunities for themselves and income for their families. This August, we’re raising money for fearless women like Mina & Saku via our @GlobalGiving Campaign, 'Little by Little' which starts in 10 days. Your combined contributions can transform the lives of these women and encourage a generation of female entrepreneurs in their wake.
