Conditions of adolescent girls in slums of Lucknow is dire. Gender disparity on social indicators like early marriage among girls, high drop outs from school and low transition from primary to upper classes, declining livelihood sources for women and growing sanitation and hygiene issues are visible across slums. 51% girls are early married,56% adolescent girls are anemic,72% girls married before age of marriage received no education.14% are pregnant during adolescence .
Our model brings holistic approach to empower adolescent girls through proven strategies like integrated micro planning,community based behavioral change communication system, girls resource centers providing life skills, adolescent girls groups, community volunteers, women groups, reporters and mainstreaming with public service deliveries.It will lead to positioning of adolescent girls for self actions, collective actions, public service linkages for holistic empowerment.
Th project will directly impact 2000 adolescent girls in 100 slums.It will enhance their participation in families, schools and community development processes, prevention of early girl marriage, enrollment & retention of girls in schools, self advocacy on the issues affecting them, gaining confidence and building future perspective among them. It will also increase their influence and access to public service provisions related to education, health, nutrition, safety & security.
