The project helps elderly people living in residential social care facilities in Ukraine to receive decent and safe conditions for daily meals. Worn-out and unsafe tableware violates their basic right to respect and care. We are replacing cups, plates, and cutlery to restore people's sense of dignity, safety, and humane treatment. Even a simple plate can change the quality of life.
In many residential social institutions in Ukraine, elderly people are forced to use heavy metal tableware designed for mass catering rather than for dignified daily life. Such tableware is inconvenient, dangerous, worn out, and degrading to human dignity. Based on the results of monitoring by the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine, a list of institutions has been compiled where the use of such tableware violates the human right to respect and adequate living conditions.
The project will replace metal tableware with safe, lightweight, and modern tableware suitable for daily use by elderly people. We will provide facilities with cups, plates, and cutlery that meet standards of dignified care. This will reduce the risk of injury and help residents feel that they are treated with respect.
The rejection of metal utensils and the transition to decent living conditions is changing attitudes toward people in care facilities. The project has a lasting effect, improving the quality of life for hundreds of people every day and reducing systemic human rights violations. It demonstrates that dignity begins with simple things and can be achieved today.
