In Nigeria, LGBTQI+ individuals face deadly mob attacks, state-sanctioned persecution, and familial violence, forcing many into homelessness or hiding. Many are killed daily simply for being gay or lesbian. This project provides emergency shelter, safety, and lifesaving support for LGBTQI+ people fleeing immediate danger. We provide secure housing, trauma counseling, medical care (including HIV treatment for those denied healthcare access and inclusive care), and legal aid to pursue asylum claims
In Nigeria, LGBTQI+ individuals endure systemic oppression under laws criminalizing same-sex relationships, exposing them to deadly mob violence, familial expulsion, and state persecution. Many are forced into homelessness, denied healthcare (including HIV treatment), and targeted for killings. With no legal protection, survivors face constant threats, untreated trauma, and barriers to asylum. This crisis demands urgent, safe shelter and comprehensive support to save lives.
This project addresses Nigeria's LGBTQI+ crisis by providing immediate safety through secure temporary housing, shielding survivors from violence and homelessness. It combats healthcare exclusion by offering HIV treatment, gender-affirming care, and trauma counseling for those denied medical access. Legal aid empowers individuals to pursue asylum or challenge persecution, while relocation support helps survivors rebuild lives in safer regions.
By addressing immediate dangers and systemic barriers, this project will reduce homelessness and preventable deaths among Nigeria's LGBTQI+ community. Secure shelter and healthcare access break cycles of trauma, empowering survivors to rebuild lives. Legal victories from asylum claims and advocacy challenge discriminatory laws, accelerating societal change. Over time, increased visibility and allyship reduce stigma, while relocated individuals become advocates for LGBTQI+ rights in safer regions
