Safe Shelter for 16 Children and Woman in Thailand

Mekong Regional Indigenous Child Rights Home (MRICRH) in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai Province provides a safe home for high-risk children, women, and men in the Greater Mekong Sub region (GMS) of Northern Thailand. This home provides critical support for those that have been orphaned, trafficked, abandoned, and neglected. The children, women, and men receive shelter, protection, life skills development training, nutritious home made meals, family outreach services, government school education, basic necessities, medical care, school supplies, transportation to/from school, and vocational training.  

 Like so many other organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals, MRICRH and the local communities and families have also been affected by Covid-19. Covid-19 continues to spread and cases continue to rise. Schools in the surrounding areas have not been able to reopen. Staff at MRICRH are doing everything they can to maintain online schooling for the children. Sadly, some areas don’t have strong enough reception for the online classes and some students are having to work.  At MRICRH a room has been set up as a classroom and a place for keeping books and school supplies. This semester we had 7 students take the exams. The numbers are lower than usual as some students have had health issues and were quarantined and unable to sit for the exams.

 We sincerely hope that our next report brings happier news and that Covid cases begin to decline.
