Project Report | Feb 16, 2021
MRICRH

By Katie Ann Crosman | International Volunteer DEPDC/GMS

Mekong Regional Indigenous Child Rights Home (MRICRH) in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai Province continues to be operational in its pursuit to provide a safe home for high-risk children, women, and men in the Greater Mekong Sub region (GMS) of Northern Thailand. This home provides critical support for those that have been orphaned, trafficked, abandoned, and neglected. The children, women, and men receive shelter, protection, life skills development training, nutritious homemade meals, family outreach services, government school education, basic necessities, medical care, school supplies, transportation to/from school, and vocational training.

Like so many other organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals MRICRH and the local communities and families have also been affected by Covid-19. Over the last few months MRICRH worked to support local children and families through our agricultural program. The land that we use to grow fruits and vegetables was shared with neighboring families as well as the goods from the last harvest.  In addition, the families were given seeds and seedlings so that they can grow and harvest for themselves.

In order for the children to remain “in” school a room was prepared for their online learning. This project of creating a space for online learning has provided opportunities for the kids at MRICRH and the kids close to the border to receive education and support. Education is one of the founding principles of DEPDC’s mission so it is with a grateful heart that we report learning is still accessible during this pandemic.

From everyone here at MRICRH we would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to all past, present, and future donors. As always, the work we do here at DEPDC is possible because of your generosity and shared passion in our mission to prevent human trafficking. Thank you!
