Safe Shelter for 16 Children and Woman in Thailand

We are happy to report that Mekong Regional Indigenous Child Rights Home (MRICRH) in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai Province continues to be operational in its pursuit to provide a safe home for high-risk children and women in the Greater Mekong Sub region (GMS) of Northern Thailand. This home provides crucial support for those that have been orphaned, trafficked, abandoned, and neglected. The children and women receive shelter, protection, life skills development training, nutritious home made meals, family outreach services, government school education, basic necessities, medical care, school supplies, transportation to/from school, and vocational training.  

Currently MRICRH has 3 cases; 2 boys and 1 man. This time of year is the time we work hard to prepare the land for the agricultural projects and planting of trees. In order to properly prepare the land, we spend days pulling and cutting weeds as well as using the tractor to help plow and turn over the soil. Our next step will be planting the different trees and vegetables. The agricultural program at MRICRH supports us in the ability to be more self-sustaining by growing our own food. 

Like so many other organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals MRICRH and the local communities and families have also been affected by Covid-19. These last few months we have given support of dried food donations to 41 families. These families are migrant laborers and have been unable to work due to safety regulations and restrictions implemented due to Covid-19.  Since they cannot work there is not enough money for the families and in some cases the poverty is so extreme that there isn’t even enough food for the families with babies. The families do not have enough funds to pay for all their monthly expenses such as house rent, food, and milk for their baby. To ease some of the burden we delivered an assortment of dried foods to each of these families. All the migrant laborers were extremely happy, grateful, and relieved to receive these food donations.
