Another three months have passed by here at DEPDC, but not too much has changed here at the Mekong Regional Indigenous Child Rights Home (MRICRH). During this time, MRICRH has maintained support for three occupants, including two children, by offering a space that encourages self-sufficiency and self-care. The children are currently deep into the school semester - working hard and thriving academically.
As we have mentioned, DEPDC will continue to provide support for the individuals currently in MRICRH. However, in the near future, DEPDC ultimately plans change the structure of MRICRH by no longer admitting members, and rather allocating all resources toward individuals within the existing programme. By taking this different approach, DEPDC hopes to fully ensure the people we assist have safely reintegrated into society and have established autonomous and productive lives.
We firmly believe the changes within MRICRH will provide urgent and immediate short-term care for people at risk of being trafficked, as well as create long-term relationships among these people which are rooted in a sense of trust, love, and shared experience. These changes also reflect our attempt to address the shifting dynamics of the larger human trafficking issue, hence our ongoing emphasis on preventative strategies like education.
On behalf of all the children, teachers, and volunteers at DEPDC, I would like to say thank you for your generous support of our mission. People like you represent the crucial partnerships that keep our centre thriving, and I appreciate having you all as allies as we push to eliminate the risk of human-trafficking in our communities. Please continue to provide your much appreciated support and don’t forget to spread the word about MRICRH by following, liking, and sharing our updates on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn!
