Playground Project First Update

By Carrie Koedyker | Project Leader

Thanks
Thanks

Dear International Center friends and supporters,

Thanks to you, we are making plans to improve our playground. While we did not reach our goal of $8,500, the $1,970 that we did raise will go a long way towards making the playground a safer place for the children. We have actually had a few more people make donations after the deadline, so our current amount is over $2,000. I am excited to test my bargaining skills and see how far we can stretch that amount!

We received some really great news! We had the goal of reaching $5,000 in order to become a permanent GlobalGiving partner, which gives us access to their website for fundraising among many other benefits. I was disappointed we didn't reach that goal because our agency is in a financial crisis right now and could really benefit from GlobalGiving's assistance. After the campaign, I received an email from GlobalGiving; they have given us partner staus despite not reaching the goal due to the high amount of donors (that's you!!) we had, and the effort I put into the process. So, the playgorund project is actually still live on their website. If you have friends that want to donate, the easiest way to find it is to search by location. We are the only project in Kentucky.

There is other good news to report. Recently we have had several new families. In March, April, and May we had almost no new arrivals, due to political reasons. However, in June we had over 20 new arrivals, and in July we have already had over 20, and another family is scheduled to arrive this week. Last week I had 60-70 kids on the playground each day. The need for rubberized mulch and more equipment is critical, and with your support I can start working on it.

Thank you,

Carrie Koedyker
