The safe playground project for refugee kids in Kentucky is advancing really good. After we had put mulch on the playground, we bought kids chairs and tables for the kids to seat on and learn as well eat their snacks. The other safety steps the project enbacked on was to make sure that the child care workers have the communication equipment to communicate among staff at the play place as well as contact the administrative office without leaving the playground.
This period, the project through the generous contributions of well wishers and generous donors, we have been able to obtain the needed walkie talkies. Also, we have built a more solid fence to protect the kids from roaming outside of the play ground.
Again we wish to thank our donors for their support.

With the support of donors and Global Giving, the Organization is continuos to create a good learning environment for the kids.
After building the play grounds for kids to play in, the donations collected from this projecthis quarter, and other resources that the agency raised was used in purchasing chairs and tables for kids to sit on and eat snacks after playing on the play ground. In the next quarter, this project would aim at buying children's toys for the younger kids that cannot play on the playground equipment by themselves. Attached are pictures of the table and chairs purchase during this reporting period.
Our sincere thanks go the all our donors and the GlobalGiving team for their wonderful support towards the creation of a safe environment for refugee kids here in Kentucky.
The Western Kentucky Refugee Mutal Assistance Society is a refugee resettlement orgnization based in ht e State of Kentucky. Its mission is to assists refugees successfully intergrate in the society and become productive members of the community. One of the activites of the Center is to provide ESL classes to adult refugees, and in doing this, also provide a place where their kids who are not of school age can play while their parents learn English.
The project on the playground has been to provide a save play area for these kids. Prior to this porject, the sit walks were muddy and in a poor state. The playground was almost void of mulch, and the few play equipment were all bad.
Since the initiation of the program, we have seen the sidewalk paved which helps support the mulch from being washed off considering that the play area is sloopy. Secondly, the playground equipment have been replaced and are in good working conditions. Two additional tables have been ordered for the parents and staff to sit and watch the kids as they play.
Also the second open area around the parking lot has been identified for an additional fence. A bit has been launched and we are currently collecting bids and would study the bits and award the contract to a contractor who woul wall off the parking lot from parts of the playground.
Attached pictures are swings that were replaced and a slide that was repaired.
Western Kentucky Refugee Mutual Assistance Society Inc. is a resfugee resettlement organization based in Bowling Green Kentucky. Its mission is to assist refugee and immigrants as they assimilate into community life in the United States and specifically Bowling Green Kentucky.
The safe playground project was to provide the refugee kids with a good environment where they can play and learn, while waiting to transition into the school system here in Bowling. For the past couple of months, due to the donations from GlobalGiving, the organization has secured some play ground equipment that is pending installation in early spring. Another company in town financed the provision of mulch on the playground and other school supplies that the kids can use indoors this Winter. One othe faith based organization provided the Western Kentucky Refugee Mutual Assistance Society with dry food for the kids during their break period.
At the moment, the organization is still in need of more playground equipement as the $2444.30 raised could not provide all of the needed equipment for the playground for these refugee kids. Some of the play ground equipment that were there before would need to be replaced.
There is some good news to report on the playground. After my last update, I visited all the local businesses that sell mulch. Our local Lowe's Home Improvement Store was the most accomodating. They were willing to sell us all the rubberized mulch we need for $3000, which is less than half of what I estimated! This will leave $1200 for the other items on my wish list. I was prepared to order the match, but was asked by the Executive Director to wait until a sidewalk could be put in near the boundary of the playground. The playground is on a slight slope and the sidealk will keep the mulch from washing away when it rains. The sidewalk was installed in August.
Unfortunately, I had to go on unanticipated medical leave in mid-September. I gave all the information for ordering the mulch from Lowe's to the CFO. I was told the mulch would be ordered and spread on the playground by the time I go back to work in late October. I look forward to seeing that!
