Create a safe playground for 50 refugee kids in KY
By Albert Mbanfu | Project Director
The safe playground project for refugee kids in Kentucky is advancing really good. After we had put mulch on the playground, we bought kids chairs and tables for the kids to seat on and learn as well eat their snacks. The other safety steps the project enbacked on was to make sure that the child care workers have the communication equipment to communicate among staff at the play place as well as contact the administrative office without leaving the playground.
This period, the project through the generous contributions of well wishers and generous donors, we have been able to obtain the needed walkie talkies. Also, we have built a more solid fence to protect the kids from roaming outside of the play ground.
Again we wish to thank our donors for their support.

The Western Kentucky Refugee Mutal Assistance Society is a refugee resettlement orgnization based in ht e State of Kentucky. Its mission is to assists refugees successfully intergrate in the society and become productive members of the community. One of the activites of the Center is to provide ESL classes to adult refugees, and in doing this, also provide a place where their kids who are not of school age can play while their parents learn English.
The project on the playground has been to provide a save play area for these kids. Prior to this porject, the sit walks were muddy and in a poor state. The playground was almost void of mulch, and the few play equipment were all bad.
Since the initiation of the program, we have seen the sidewalk paved which helps support the mulch from being washed off considering that the play area is sloopy. Secondly, the playground equipment have been replaced and are in good working conditions. Two additional tables have been ordered for the parents and staff to sit and watch the kids as they play.
Also the second open area around the parking lot has been identified for an additional fence. A bit has been launched and we are currently collecting bids and would study the bits and award the contract to a contractor who woul wall off the parking lot from parts of the playground.
Attached pictures are swings that were replaced and a slide that was repaired.
