SAFE NIGHTS, BRIGHT FUTURES FOR GIRLS IN KENYA (Project #75943)

Background

Esupetai Comprehensive School is nestled in the savannah grasslands of Narok County, Kenya. The school has a population of more than 700 boys and girls, primarily from the Maasai community, where many families depend on pastoralism for their livelihoods.

Nayiari is raising funds to construct a dormitory that will accommodate up to 100 girls. Many of these girls currently walk more than 12 kilometres to and from school each day, exposing them to significant challenges and risks. These include attacks by wildlife, sexual violence, fatigue resulting from long journeys and daily household chores, and limited time for rest and study. These challenges contribute to poor performance and increased school dropout rates among girls.

The dormitory will provide the girls with a safer and more supportive environment where they can live, study and focus on their education.

Progress So Far Nayiari has held meetings with the school administration to discuss and agree on the proposed location of the dormitory. These discussions have also covered how members of the local community will participate in and support the project.

Nayiari has continued to provide the school community with updates on the funds raised and the progress of the fundraising campaign. The school Board of Management has been tasked with the building contractor selection.

All funds raised up to the end of July 2026, amounting to $2147,  have been disbursed to Nayiari by GlobalGiving and are currently held in Nayiari's bank account. The immediate priority is to continue mobilising resources so that the project can reach the US$10,000 construction-start milestone.

Nayiari will continue working closely with the school administration, School Board of Directors and community members to ensure that the project is implemented transparently and responsibly.
