Bangladesh, being an agricultural country, has extensive farmland where large shade trees are avoided to prevent reduced crop yields. However, this leaves vast agricultural fields and riverine grazing areas exposed, putting farmers and residents at risk of lightning strikes, particularly during sudden rainstorms. Each year, many lives are tragically lost due to this hazard.

The "Lightning Safe Life Project with Trees" aims to mitigate these risks by planting tall, slender trees such as palm, betel nut, and palmyra. These trees serve as natural lightning rods, effectively reducing fatalities without hindering crop productivity. The project prioritizes open spaces in agricultural and grazing areas, ensuring safety while maintaining land usability.

As part of this initiative, 24 palm trees have been planted in chokrajapur Charland areas, providing a pilot demonstration of how environmentally sustainable interventions can enhance safety. This approach not only protects lives but also contributes to disaster resilience and ecological balance.
