Greensleeves Children's Trust is a place of safety for abused and abandoned children. Our current safe houses are full to overflowing. Due to the economic situation more and more children are abused and abandoned. We would like to build another safe house to accommodate up to 30 children. We have the space to build it on the farm where the current safe houses are situated. We don't turn children away if we can possibly help it. Another safe house gives 30 children a chance of normal life.
Our local economy is failing and so many people are out of work, the people who get the worst end is the children. Parents walk around begging all day, children are left to their own devices, resulting in being on streets, getting into gangs, or just going out and stealing to sell stuff for food. The parents take the little money they have and buy alcohol, and the children are left to fend for themselves. It's a never ending story of abused and abandonment for the children.
Greensleeves Children's Trust currently has 2 safe houses and 15 foster homes , We have cottages for some foster moms, but some are in the local settlements. We supply food, clothing and schooling for all these 90 odd children to give them the best opportunity. This would give another 30 children the opportunity to have a safe home, be fed, clothed and educated. Greensleeves Children's Trust has a school built on the farm that caters from babies up to the final year of school.
Over a 10 year period as many as 300 or more children could benefit from this new Safe house. We currently have over 95 children in our care. Many who finish school stay on at the farm and become employees while studying part time to become Teachers Assistants. With our new programme of teaching them Brick laying, cooking, sewing and gardening this will give them hope of a future as a fully employed person in South Africa
