The Women's Support Center runs two shelters to support women and children from all across Armenia who are fleeing violence. In the absence of State support, this is a service that is desperately needed in the country. Your support today will go toward rent, utilities, food, hygienic products, and medical care for 50 women and children to help them regain their dignity and rebuild their lives in a healthy, supportive, and safe environment free of abuse.
Securing funding for a shelter is an exceptional challenge for us, and we rely mostly on individual donations to cover the burdensome costs of rent, utilities, food, hygienic products, and medical care for the women and children who come to us for assistance from all over the country. Because they are fleeing extremely dangerous situations and often bring nothing with them, providing them with the basic necessities they need truly helps them get back on their feet.
The women and children who stay at the WSC shelters are able to stay safe as they access all the services we offer, which include full walk-in services; social, psychological, and legal counseling; a 24-hour hotline; group sessions to learn about domestic violence and safety planning; workshops to strengthen parental skills and maintain a healthy lifestyle; English classes to build on language skills; and an economic empowerment program that encourages survivors to jumpstart their careers.
With your support, 50 women and children from all across Armenia will be supported to reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives free of abuse. A changing tide is taking place, as our work in empowering survivors is inspiring them to become spokespersons for domestic violence. As a result, more women are putting an end to the cycle of abuse and challenging the cultural tolerance of violence, which is having a powerful ripple effect on the community.
