15 YEARS OF IMPACT
As HRI celebrates 15 years of serving vulnerable children and families around the world, we are grateful for the lasting impact supporters like you have made possible. One of the most transformative ways we have improved health and quality of life in Guatemala has been through the distribution of safe cookstoves. Over the past 15 years, HRI has provided 296 safe cookstoves to families living in poverty, helping protect women and children from harmful smoke, reduce burns, lower fuel costs, and create healthier homes.
215 STOVES
We are about to nearly double our impact in one year! After some delays with our partners, we are excited to share that we are finally moving forward with a major safe cookstove initiative in Guatemala. In the coming months, HRI will distribute an additional 215 safe cookstoves to families living in an extremely vulnerable Indigenous region where many households still cook over open fires inside their homes.
These life-changing stoves will dramatically improve health, safety, and quality of life for hundreds of children and adults by reducing harmful smoke inhalation, lowering the risk of burns, and decreasing the amount of time and resources families spend gathering firewood. For many families, this simple intervention will create a healthier home environment and provide greater dignity and opportunity for years to come.
Our team is on the ground this week conducting assessments, meeting with community members, and laying the foundation for the work that lies ahead. We look forward to sharing stories and updates as these families begin experiencing the benefits of safer, cleaner cooking.
MAURA's STOVE
While this larger initiative is just beginning, your support is already making a difference. So far in 2026, thanks specifically to the generosity of our monthly GlobalGiving partners, we have been able to provide a safe cookstove to Maura and her son, Jairo, who live in an extremely remote mountainous village in Guatemala.
Before receiving their cookstove, Maura prepared every meal over an open fire, exposing both herself and Jairo to harmful smoke and increasing the risk of burns and respiratory illness. Today, their new stove provides a cleaner, safer cooking environment while using significantly less firewood. This means improved health, greater safety, and more time for Maura to care for her family rather than searching for fuel.
Maura and Jairo's story is just one example of the lasting impact your generosity creates. As we prepare to reach 215 additional families in the months ahead, we are reminded that every stove represents a family breathing cleaner air, a mother cooking more safely, and children growing up healthier and stronger.
THANK YOU
Thank you for your generosity, your trust, and your partnership. Because of your support, vulnerable children and families are finding hope, improved health, and a brighter future. We are deeply honored to continue this mission alongside you throughout 2026.
