Funding Education Centre for Russian Orphans

Education is a priority at Kitezh Children's Community in Russia. Stimulating the desire to learn, encouraging team work, and teaching skills that will serve the children once they have left home and are creating their lives as adults - all this and more is the purpose and vision of Kitezh School. The teachers are also the foster parents and work in the community, in the gardens, on the farm as well as building their own houses. We are building a Life Skills Workshop to teach practical skills, carpentry and metalwork, that will provide the less academic children with skills they can use in their lives. The Workshop is built close to the families' homes so that the children do not have far to go. There they can learn to make furniture, toys, swords and helmets for the Summer Role Play Games, and other wooden and metal crafts. We have raised 14,000 to date. This covers the cost of building the foundations and the basic structure. We need a further 12,000 to finish the building, the flooring, insulation and heating. The Workshop will be equipped with work benches and electric saws, chisels, hammers, electric screw drivers, a planer, a lathe, a table saw, a jig saw, compressor and clamp. The cost of the equipment is 3,500. Already the children are excited to try their hand at making things from wood - their teacher is Andrew from UK who is a skilled wood worker. He came from Scotland 6 years ago and now Kitezh is his home. Here he is showing Vadim how to make a box for his foster mother's birthday.
