We express our sincere gratitude to everybody who helped us and donated for the construction of a new house for a big family of Orion Children’s Community! On 31st December 2011 the family of Masha, Anton, and their children Alexandra (1) Vanya (11) Ruslan (15) Vera (15) and Nastya Lapina (17) moved into their new home. We celebrated New Year there all together.
We started to build the house in June 2011. We tried to do all the work ourselves in order not to spend money on labour costs and to save our funds for construction and decoration materials. Thanks to excellent organising and management skills of Anton Kuzmin all materials were bought and the work was done just in time. Children and women of Orion helped to paint the windows. While working on construction of the new house all together, the Kitezh and Orion teams became closer. In September a group of men from Kitezh came to help us lay the flooring.
We call this new house Flagman because it looks like a ship. Flagman has become the gathering place for both children and adults and there is plenty of room for guests from Kitezh and other programmes.
We are very grateful to all our supporters for helping us to build this house. It is not only a home for a big family of foster children, but it is also a place where visiting families can stay and learn about parenting from foster parents with a great deal of experience!
Masha and Anton Kuzmin's family will live in the new house with their 5 children. There will be additional accommodation for guest families and volunteers. So it will also be a training centre where prospective foster parents can live with a professional foster family and learn the basics of therapeutic work from them.
Our next project at Orion is to renovate Masha and Anton's previous house to become the home for the Kindergarten. Tamara Pichugina, Masha's mother and foster mother to eight children, has moved to Orion to take up her role as Babushka. She will run the kindergarten. Estimated cost: £3,000.
