Water is receding

By Belen Quellet | Director at HelpArgentina

The water is gone, but the damage is done.

We are aiming to be able to repair the damage. The work includes reparing the road to the school and the actual building. Roof leaks, walls need to be fixed, furniture replaced, painting is required.

Classes have restarted, but their school conditions, where children spend most of their day, needs to be improved.

Most of the rural schools in Argentina provide not only education, but also a meal. Children mostly walk to the school, although some get there on a bicycle or on a horse. Because of the long distances they have to make, the school usually receives them with breakfast. And before they go back, if not lunch, they are provided with a snack.

Most of the rural schools have just one room, so children from different grades share the room, the teacher and the time.

Usually there is only one teacher per school, and most of them are just elementary schools. This teacher teaches everything from basic hygiene to math and science, history and geography.
