Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture (IMA) is a nature-based solution that combines traditional pond farming with mangrove conservation. By growing shrimp, fish alongside or within mangrove forests, this system restores critical ecological functions that lost to traditional intensive farming.
Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) under SAIME (Sustainable Aquaculture in Mangrove Ecosystem) project initiates more than 75 hectors area converted to IMA method so that our farming area gets the benefit of mangrove plantation.
Environmental benefit:
-Filtrate the water from pollutant, excess nitrogen and phosphorus.
-Capturing more than 4 times carbon from the environment
-protect the coastal area from storm surges.
Economic benefit:
-Reduce the input coast in IMA farm.
-Protect from diseases outbreak.
-Mangrove timber and fruits can be provide diversification in income generation.
BEDS is currently trying to raise funds from GlobalGiving platform in order to help those marginal people in the way of income generation for their better future with better economic conditions. We also hope that through taking support from various corners they will be able to use their products for earning their sound livelihood.
