READ PROJECT REPORT 3- Improvement in Literacy.

By ABDIRASHID ALI | Executive Director

The tuition programme for the girls has been going on quite well. We have distributed the instructional materials to the girls such as - Exercise books, pencils, erasers and crayons, among others. Similarly, the supplementary readers we donated are in good use, thus boosting the girls reading competencies. This term, the school had many challenges which have somehow affected the girls and the school in general. Absenteeism due to lack of food this term, sickness, late coming to school as most of the parent are away in the reserves with their livestock and no one was left to prepare the children well. Some of the classrooms are temporary structures which could not shelter the girls from extreme weather condition such as heavy wind with a cloud of dust which has contributed to increased ill-health among the pupils.

Seventeen girls were absent on the day of our visit. 10 out of the 17 girls never reported this term altogether. Each child has read two supplementary readers so far for those in level 2 and 3. In the subject of numeracy, most of the girls can do simple addition, subtraction and multiplication of two-digit numbers and even division of two and three-digit numbers by one-digit number for level 3 correctly. Some of the parents have reported to the office about a good improvement of their girls' reading and writing skills.

Even though the tuition programme was on for only two months so far, the school has witnessed good improvement.

For example, Farida (shown in the video) who two months ago wasn't to read, can now read the class readers for her level very well.

In conclusion, the following are the school's urgent needs.:-

At least 4 Latrines

Hand Washing facilities

Permanent classrooms -two-classes are a temporary classroom.

Playing equipment/materials such as balls, net, games kit for creative and movement activities/sports.

We thank you for our incredible donors and supporters for enabling us to assist in boosting the education of orphans and vulnerable girls and the school in general.

I hope you will continue working with us to ensure this project is completed successfully.

Thank you and may God bless you.
