Bulla Afya Primary school is located in Bulla Afya location, Mandera County, Kenya. Until early 2018, the 25,000 residents of Bulla Afya location did not have a school. This project will build three latrines, dig a shallow well, construct an underground water tank & supply 30-three seater desks to Bulla Afya Primary School. Also, the project will provide school uniforms & storybooks to 100 orphaned & vulnerable girls in addition to 8 hours of remedial lessons per month for two years.
The past twelve years children from Bulla Afya village walked 8km a day to the nearest school. Therefore the opening of a Primary school in their village was a welcomed relief for the 254 pupils who are enrolled currently. However, the school lacks necessary physical facilities such as water, sanitation, classrooms, desks and teaching and learning resources. The school has only two teachers. Due to the high level of poverty, the school doesn't receive much support from the parent.
The project will; Construct three latrines, dig a water well, construct an underground water tank, buy 30- three-seater desks, provide school uniform, reading books and remedial lessons for 100 orphaned and/or vulnerable girls. The project will hire supplementary teachers who will support the beneficiary girls boost their literacy and numeracy level by the end of the two years. In addition, the project will provide class readers for the school's mini-library.
The project will improve the literacy & numeracy of 100 orphaned & vulnerable girls, which will enable them to have a firm foundation for the remaining years in primary school. In addition, the project will enable the school management to cater to the needs of all pupils at the school. 1- Improved reading level of the beneficiary girls 2- Improved reading behaviour of the beneficiary girls 3- Improved Water & Sanitation Health & Hygiene Behaviour 4- Increased Access to Basic Sanitation
