This project empowers vulnerable rural communities in Jigawa State, Nigeria, with the knowledge and resources to mitigate flood disasters. Through awareness campaigns, early warning systems, and preparedness training, we aim to reduce loss of lives and property. Women, children, and persons with disabilities face the greatest risks, often losing livelihoods and basic needs. By building resilience, we can create a safer, more sustainable future for all.
Families in Jigawa State face devastating floods year after year, losing loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. In 2024, floods hit 22 of 27 Local Government Areas, affecting over 240,000 people and deepening food insecurity. Many struggles without the knowledge or resources to prepare for future disasters. With better awareness, early warning systems, and risk mitigation, we can help communities protect their lives, homes, and futures.
The project will work closely with communities to raise awareness and build resilience in flood prone areas. Through workshops, training sessions, and simulations, residents will learn how to protect themselves and their livelihoods. Partnering with local leaders and disaster agencies, we will develop early warning systems and preparedness plans. With educational materials, emergency kits, and hands on training to equip families to act before, during, and after the anticipated floods.
Through this initiative, communities in Jigawa State will become more resilient to flooding. Increased awareness and preparedness will help reduce casualties, property damage, and economic losses. Farmers will learn sustainable land management practices to minimize soil erosion and waterlogging, while local governments will be better equipped to respond to flood emergencies. This project will contribute to long term disaster risk reduction in the region.
