Rukundo Preparatory School is unlike any other in the region and offers an education to children who otherwise would be left behind. Our most pressing need is to complete construction on two new classrooms. In early 2019, we need to graduate our 5-year old students from our nursery program to the 1st grade. We have already broken ground on the new classrooms, and with your support and generosity, we can complete the construction and continue to impact lives holistically in Uganda.
The government of Uganda recognizes that education is the key to success for its citizens, communities, and the growth of the nation. Great efforts have been made to create access to education for all Ugandan children, but the efforts have fallen short. While there is access to public schools, there are still associated fees which are outside of the financial reach of many rural families. And the classrooms are overcrowded beyond our comprehension with as many as 100 children per classroom!
Our school provides a first-rate education, along with daily nutrition, to children in Kabale. Many of these children had never seen playground equipment and had to be taught how to use it (along with the teachers!). For most of them, the only nutritious and filling meals they will have that day will be at our school. Our students are thriving because each child is cared for in a holistic way - meeting their needs physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
Going beyond the school's primary mission, our focus is on sustainable programs that will impact the entire community. One of the ways we do this is by using the school as a community center for weekly children's events, health clinics, women's empowerment groups, and more. Our vision is "a Uganda where all communities reach their full potential" - starting with Kyanamira. We believe education is the key to help Ugandans become world-changers.
