Te Aud Romania is implementing for the third year in a row a mentoring program dedicated to talented yet disadvantaged rugby juniors. Under the initiative of DHL Express Romania and in partnership with Banca Comerciala Romana, Te Aud Romania Foundation has implemented the program called "Rugby for all children", with the aim of enabling talented yet disadvantaged individuals to carry on the Gura Humorului great rugby tradition forward, while developing their own skills at the highest degree.
Romania is still facing a high number of disadvantaged communities. The main challenge around these community issues are the youngsters who lack resources for an equal chance to education: an equal chance to learn, grow and thrive. Our mentoring project is identifying children that come from economic-deprived environments and have a talent for rugby. We support these individuals through their education in all forms - sports, school, character building, personal development and non-formal.
Currently, we have 20 children within the program and we are seeking to expand with another 20 - serving in total a number of 40 children. Each child is assigned a mentor - aimed to serve as a success model. Children are part of a personal development programme - where they are taught skills and abilities aimed at increasing their potential: English classes, French classes, maths, financial workshops and lifelong learning skills. Thus, increasing their chances for productive lives in the future
No matter the question - education is the answer. The short and medium term impact of our project is the immediate positive impact we have on the lives of these children and their education. In the long term, the project opens up opportunities that otherwise they would not encounter - allowing them to rise out of poverty and create a sustainable support platform in the future for their families and immediate environment.
