A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, approximately 50 miles from Kathmandu. The affected area is home to many Room to Read staff members and program communities. Room to Read opened the Nepal Education Fund to support our Nepal team as they assess earthquake damage in our program communities and provide support where it is needed most. The Nepal Education Fund will allow us to quickly respond to the efforts that need our immediate support and attention.
Room to Read launched in Nepal 15 years ago, and is home to many Room to Read staff members and program communities. Many of our project sites are located in the Lamjun and Dhading Districts, two areas greatly affected by the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake. Right now, help is needed for the people of Nepal - first by providing critical emergency relief and then through repairing and reviving their communities.
Our Nepal Education Fund is set up to support our team in Nepal as they assess the damage in our program communities and provide support where it is needed most. While we don't yet know the condition of our project sites or the impact on our program participants in these remote communities, in the coming weeks and months, our team in Nepal will assess the damage to determine where our educational work is most needed. Room to Read is committed to rebuilding children's lives through education.
Our Nepal Education Fund will allow us to quickly respond to the efforts that need our immediate attention. We are committed to ensuring children and teachers can return to a safe school with the educational resource they need, as soon as possible. By supporting children and teachers by helping to rebuild the educational system, we can work to ensure that all children in Nepal have access to a quality education for years to come.
