Kids Interactive Environmental Education Program

By Eleonora Gamba | Program Director

The Eco-kids program teaches awareness of health, diet, nutrition and exercise, and of environmental issues. The objectives are to make students appreciate the interrelatedness of those topics and personal well-being; approach environmental problems through active inquiry, experimentation and observation; adopt more environmentally conscious and energy efficient behavior. Children are immersed in understanding environmental issues and they pass through areas of the park specialized to demonstrate each issue.

Lately, the Eco-Park team focused on the implementation of a new station called the "Eco Kid's Trail". During this educational activity, the kids can discover those species of animal which are at risk of extintion in Indonesia. An endangered specie is one which has been categorised by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as likely to become extinct. One of the main task of Role Foundation is the protection of the environment including its fauna which is important for the natural cycle of the life.

Role Foundation is also responsible for the marine conservation. The Marine Center is another educational station for the Eco-Kids Tour and it aims to teach to the kids the importance of sea and ocean and how to keep them clean; some of the environmental issues that balineses are facing in these last years.

Almost ¾ of the entire planet Earth is covered with seas and oceans. That is why seas and oceans also influence a lot of our lives. There are many species that live in balanced harmony with each other and which also benefits us – this is known as ecosystem. Ecosystems are like a family or village, where everyone has a role to play. It is In this article I would like to focus on two sea ecosystems that are most important and that are also most threatened by human actions. This is especially important here in Bali, as there are more people coming here and also more land is used for building and other activities.

Our main wish is to spread awarness to the new young generations sharing with them respect and love for the environment and the planet Earth.
