Project Report: Ramadan Ration Packs Distribution to Rohingya Refugees
Project Title: Ramadan Ration Packs Distribution to Rohingya Refugees in Cox's Bazar
Location: Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh
Number of Beneficiaries: Rohingya Refugee Families
1. Project Overview
In Ramadan, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan undertook the initiative to provide essential ration packs to Rohingya refugees residing in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. This distribution was crucial following a devastating fire that recently broke out in the refugee camp, burning 90% of the homes to ashes. The project aimed to support these displaced families during the holy month of Ramadan, ensuring they had adequate food to observe fasting and break it with dignity.
2. Project Goals
- Provide Ramadan Support: Delivering Ramadan ration packs to families who lost their homes and belongings in the fire, ensuring they had enough food for Suhoor and Iftar during the holy month.
- Emergency Relief: Supporting affected families in their recovery process by delivering essential food supplies.
- Sustained Assistance: Continuing Alkhidmat Foundation’s commitment to helping Rohingya refugees with necessary resources.
3. Project Activities
- Ration Pack Preparation: The Ramadan ration packs were carefully prepared, containing essential food items such as rice, lentils, flour, oil, sugar, dates, and other staples commonly used for Suhoor and Iftar meals.
- Distribution to Families: Alkhidmat Foundation volunteers personally reached out to the families in the camp, delivering the ration packs to their temporary homes. The volunteers ensured that every family affected by the fire received the supplies they needed for Ramadan.
4. Challenges
- Post-Fire Devastation: The recent fire added complexity to the distribution as many families had lost their homes, requiring additional coordination to locate and serve the affected individuals.
- Logistical Difficulties: Given the challenging conditions of the refugee camp, volunteers had to navigate difficult terrain and overcrowded areas to deliver the ration packs directly to the families.
5. Impact
- Support for Fire-Affected Families: The distribution provided immediate relief to families who had been left with nothing after the fire, offering them not only food but also emotional support during a challenging time.
- Sustaining Ramadan Traditions: Despite their dire circumstances, the ration packs allowed these families to observe Ramadan and maintain the tradition of fasting and breaking their fast with sufficient nourishment.
- Ongoing Humanitarian Aid: This project continues Alkhidmat Foundation's efforts to assist the Rohingya refugees, having previously provided them with basic necessities during their times of need.
6. Conclusion
The Ramadan Ration Packs Distribution was a timely and compassionate intervention that brought hope and relief to the fire-affected Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar. By ensuring that these vulnerable families could observe Ramadan with dignity, the project has strengthened Alkhidmat Foundation’s long-standing commitment to helping displaced and marginalized communities. Through such humanitarian efforts, we continue to extend our support and solidarity to those most in need.
