Summary

Poverty affects families not only through limited income but also through food insecurity, lack of educational resources, and reduced opportunities for children. Recognising these interconnected challenges, OBHIZATRIK Foundation provides regular support to vulnerable families to help them meet their basic needs while encouraging children to continue their education.

Currently, OBHIZATRIK Foundation is supporting 40 vulnerable families with school-going children. The families receive monthly grocery assistance, while children receive educational and school-related supplies. During festivals and special occasions, additional food and seasonal support are provided to help families celebrate with dignity and happiness.

Challenge

Many low-income families struggle to meet their basic household food needs while also covering the costs associated with their children's education. Limited household income often forces parents to prioritise food and other essential expenses, leaving little money for school supplies, uniforms, shoes, bags, or nutritious food for their children.

Children from these families may therefore face difficulties attending school regularly and participating fully in school activities. Food insecurity can also affect children's health, concentration, and overall wellbeing.

Seasonal and festival periods can create additional financial pressure, as families often cannot afford special food or nutritious items for their children during these occasions.

Solution

To address these challenges, OBHIZATRIK Foundation currently provides monthly grocery support to 40 vulnerable families. The assistance includes essential household food items such as rice, lentils, cooking oil, potatoes, onions, spices, chicken, beef or fish, bread, snacks, noodles, milk, and other basic necessities, according to household needs and availability.

The Foundation also provides regular educational and school-related support to children from these families. This includes stationery, school uniforms, shoes, school bags, tiffin boxes, water bottles, and other necessary educational materials.

During festivals, seasonal occasions, and special periods, families may also receive seasonal fruits and festive food items, particularly to ensure that children can enjoy these occasions alongside their peers.

By combining household food assistance with educational support, the project helps families manage their immediate needs while encouraging parents to keep their children in school.

Long-Term Impact

The project currently supports approximately 40 vulnerable families and their children, helping reduce household food insecurity and easing some of the financial burden associated with children's education. 

Regular grocery assistance helps families maintain access to essential food, while educational materials and school supplies help children attend school more regularly and participate with greater confidence. Providing items such as uniforms, shoes, bags, tiffin boxes, and water bottles also reduces the costs that can otherwise become barriers to continued schooling.

In the long term, the initiative aims to contribute to better nutrition, continued education, and improved wellbeing among children from vulnerable households. By supporting both the family and the child's educational needs, OBHIZATRIK Foundation seeks to help families move gradually from immediate hardship toward greater stability and improved opportunities for their children.
