The Rio Sol Bio Corridor project was planted in two stages last year. LRFF and the Maleku indigenous tribe planted 35,000+ trees (110+ species) in a continuous corridor along one side of the Rio Sol. The river winds like a snake through all three “Palenques” of the Maleku Reserve and more than 12 different Maleku landowners participated with parts of their farms in the project.
We are now in the final 4 months of project maintenance and are anxious to continue on the other side of the river at Ever’s farm. This project will return the native forest across the river from the biological corridor we planted last year in Palenque Margarita.
These projects within the Maleku Reserve have created a great pride and appreciation in the Maleku tribe. They call and send photos almost every week expressing their amazement at just how quickly the trees have developed, almost twice as fast as any other area LRFF has planted previously.
Thank you all for your generous donations to this project. We’re on the way to doubling down in 2013, all because of you. Have a great holiday season and we’ll see you again next year….
