Street Soccer Barcelona Association is a non profit organisation that uses football to resist against the exclusion of the homeless and people at risk of social exclusion.
More than 4,200 people are homeless in the city of Barcelona. 1,239 sleep on the street according to the count of Arrels Fundacio in May 2020. Many of them are young inmigrants that arrive to our city alone and with nothing but hopes and fears. It is very important to prevent this situation, especially at young ages, to avoid its chronification. We know that the first step to inclusion is through the construction of bonds and containment nets.
We know that with the practice of soccer, the building of confidence and the development of a better image of oneself is improved based on personal strengths and potentials. Soccer has the ability to transmit positive values such as teamwork, camaraderie, cooperation, cohesion, a sense of belonging, tolerance, sportsmanship or respect for others. We want to provide free access to soccer practice, showers and snacks, and share time and space. We want to build a place where everyone feels welcome.
The main objectives of the Association are : - To provide the city with an open communal space in which people at risk of social exclusion can play football - To use sport as a way to improve the quality of life of the homeless and people at risk of social exclusion. - To highlight the value of football as a team sport - Hosting healthy activities with the general public as a way to encourage social cohesion and break prejudice and stereotypes of people at risk of social exclusion
