Richmond is a small Karoo town in the northern cape. This project started as a soup kitchen feeding children in the community as the unemployment rate is about 85%. Due to unemployment, poverty faces many children daily in Richmond. With the support of individual donors and strong community leaders, we are able to feed over 200 daily. The Community Centre has become a safe space for many children to be themselves and to take part in the educational activities the organization had to offer.
Due to the lack of jobs and development in this area, it leads to poverty and in many cases crime. Poverty is one problem which will lead to many more other problems. Richmond faces a problem like teenage pregnancy and alcohol abuse, HIV/AIDS, and Crime. Many children are born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders which is a very sad story for children growing up and can function normally in school which leads to dropouts and get added to the unemployment list which again leads to Poverty.
With the help of donors, we ensure that we provide a healthy nutritional meal daily. We provide after-school life skills and educational activities for the children. We believe in three focus areas Education-(Reading activities) Health- (Life skills and well-being activities) Nutrition- Feeding children and provide a safe platform Educate them to become responsible and contributing members of society.
The project will provide 500 children with meals throughout the year it will help them to focus on educational patterns rather than to worry about what they will eat when they get home. This will support them with mentors that will support them to make a positive change in their lives.
