An update on Relief International's work in Yemen

By Martha Libri | Development and Communications Associate

Since fighting broke out in Yemen more than five years ago an estimated 24 million people – 80% of the country’s total population – have been left in dire need of humanitarian assistance. The conflict has led to economic and institutional collapse and famine-like conditions. Many families face food insecurity and limited access to healthcare. It is estimated that Yemen now has more than two million children that are so acutely malnourished that the majority become permanently impaired or, in many cases, die.

Thanks to the steadfast support of our donors, Relief International remains one of the largest healthcare providers in Yemen, treating thousands of cases of childhood malnutrition each year at our fixed health facilities located in Hajjah, Ammran, Dhamar and Sana’a. Our teams continue to work around the clock to alleviate the harmful effects of malnutrition by providing nutritional assistance through both healthcare centers and mobile clinics in remote corners of the country. Your support directly enables us to offer a lifeline for people cut off from health services.

Additionally, since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in April, infections have surged across the country against the backdrop of a worsening conflict and a subsequent cholera outbreak. Relief International’s priorities are now to increase awareness on how to prevent the spread of the virus in at-risk communities, strengthen health facilities to handle an influx of COVID-19 cases, and provide PPE to frontline health workers. Your compassionate investment in our work has never been more important.

On behalf of all of us at Relief International, thank you.

Donate now to help support our life-saving work in Yemen and many of the world’s most fragile settings.
