Parrots in the wild

Hello Friend,

I am writing to give you an update on our parrot nests. Recently we participated in Global Big Day. Global Big Day is an international birdwatching event held every second Saturday in May. People worldwide record bird species and post the data online to help contribute to conservation and environmental science. Around 55 people participated, and we found 150 different species, which is 30 more than we found on Global Big Day in 2025. Among these species, observations included 8 yellow-naped Amazon parrots seen in a single day of the event, a positive sign for this charismatic and important parrot.

In the coming 2 months we will be cleaning out the artificial nests placed on forest trees in order to continue to ensure a ready nesting habitat for the birds. We will also meet with the farmers who have historically supported this nesting program. For this parrot program, your help is crucial to our success. The yellow-naped parrots are critically endangered, and without intervention to ensure they can breed without having their nests stolen, they will become extinct, weakening biodiversity and ecosystem health. Stepping up today will support these birds for their tomorrow.

Thank you,

Kate Huey
