On behalf of the local residents of Nishihara Village, OISCA is extending its sincerest gratitude for the kindness and generosity of GlobalGiving Donors.
It has been 8 months since Nishihara Village was hit by the magnitude 7 earthquake last April 15. Right after the disaster, we utilized our networks within and outside Japan to raise funds so to help reach out to the local victims. With the help of the GlobalGiving donors, it was possible for us to collaborate with the local organization and the local government of the village so to mobilize group of volunteers from the different parts of Japan to help in the maintenance of agricultural farms and do grass cutting in the common public lands of Nishihara Village.
The local villagers are very grateful with the scheme of dispatching volunteers. With outside help, it was possible for them to plant sweet potato (their main source of income) on time along with other crops. In nearby affected areas without outside help, local farmer victims could not till their land because they were busy restoring their damaged houses.
To organize more volunteers for next year, we have created a page on our Japanese website to facilitate recruitment of volunteers from the different parts of Japan.
