As we begin 2026, we are thrilled to share that this year will be Little Footprints Big Steps' 15th anniversary! 15 years of reuniting families after devastating separation. 15 years of protecting vulnerable children in Haiti. 15 years of building genuine and collaborative partnerships with Haitian communities and authorities. Thank you for the role you've played in allowing this lifechanging work to continue and reach more children! We could not do it without supporters and partners like you.

Our Co-Founder and Executive Director recently did an interview with CBC North highlighting the growth of Little Footprints Big Steps over the past 15 years, which can be heard at the following link if you're interested: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-393-yukon-morning/clip/16198201-fifteen-years-its-creation-non-profit-started-yukoner-operating

In December 2025, our team alongside the Haitian Social Services (IBESR) office of the region of Nippes began working towards family reunification for just over 10 children who were placed in orphanages. This included family tracing, seeking to locate the families. The next step is then mediation, preparing both the families and children psychologically for reunification. Our team made great efforts to seek to reconnect as many families as possible in time for the holiday season! Time and time again we are blown away and so grateful for our team's dedication and perserverence - which is a powerful force in finding solutions even when situations seem impossible!

As we begin the new year, our Income Generating Opportunities Agent is already working with many of these families to evaluate their capacity for business start-up and provide financial literacy training. This month, six of these families are already ready to receive their first installment of capital for business start up! This will help each family grow a small business in order to become more self-sufficient and have the means to care for their children. Our team will accompany them every step of the way and continue to provide follow-up support.

In addition, a group of 8 former street children are currently in our care as we work towards reunification with their families. These children are receiving literacy tutoring and attending school, and have already made great strides in their learning. Over the holidays, they enjoyed visiting local waterfalls and other scenic sites. Little Footprints staff prepared fun festivities for the children and have already been able to locate the families of several of these children.

We continue to follow-up with other former street children who were recently reunited with their families to ensure they continue to attend school and have a postiive reintegration into their communities. One of these children had contracted syphilis while living in the streets, and our nurse has been visiting him regularly to ensure timely medical treatment as well as nutritional support while he is on treatment. As reports highlight exponentially high rates of child recruitment into armed gangs in Haiti, our work with street children is more critical than ever - as it completely changes the direction of these children's futures... and therefore, the country's future.

Towards the end of 2025, our team expanded Little Footprints' work with street children into the Grand'Anse region, as we collaborated with Haitian Social Services (IBESR) to host our first ever Street Child Meeting in that region. This is an initiative we have facilitated in the South Department of Haiti for several years, however it was our first time to facilitate it in another department. This event allows us to mobilize the street children in town, to document them, listen to them, and motivate them to leave the streets. Over 30 children were identified.

Our team has been following up with this group of children, seeking to locate their families and prepare for reunification. Several of these children have already been reunited and are living with their families instead of on the streets! However, their families are highly vulnerable and will require significant follow-up support.

We are grateful for your partnership as we continue to provide these much-needed changes to the lives of Haiti's future generation.
