August Updates for Retake

By Danielle Desnoyers | Founder + Director

Hello all, these are Retake's updates for the past few months:

  • We have continually gone to the mountains of western North Carolina to work with nonprofits and community members on the ground who are still reeling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The storm may have happened in September 2024, but it will be a long time before things are back to normal. We have put a lot of leg work in to building connections and will be working with families there in the coming years to recreate their lost memories.
  • Our director went to the border between the US and Mexico for three weeks to meet with migrant families. We have a separate project report just on that. Please look for it on our profile.
  • In June, we celebrated World Refugee Day. Unfortunately, the resettlement agencies in our hometown were shuttered by the Trump Administration, so there weren't big celebrations this year. But we hope that will change in the future. Working with refugee families who are starting over is the cornerstone of who we are.

Disasters are on the rise, and we anticipate being an available resource for people who lose so much in their lives.

We are grateful for your continued support. Thank you!
