Restoring South Sudanese luo's culture project aims to promote and enhance the work of rural women to become economically independent at their household level while preserving a disappearing culture and heritages in their communities. Global Development Services will provide financial assistance (cash transfer) to 20 women in Alur village south Sudan to strengthen their work of Arts andculture.
During the 21 years of Civil war of S Sudan nearly 80% of luo population displaced leaving this rich and thriving culture in danger of disappearing forever. This create little knowledge about traditional arts and young women risk losing an important part of their own cultural identity. As S Sudan develops, it is vital it does so with a clear self-identity, one that is fostered by a strong and diverse arts sector. Its also important that these ancient art forms are taught properly to children.
The project will be provide Cash, high-quality training for up to 20 poor women in rural areas of Alur County. By providing training and awareness raising, GDS will help reconnect young women to their culture and Arts work. It will also provide a path towards future employment for young women as a mean of treatment to social issues.
This program is of vital importance to those women who come from poor families with social problems. The program lifts them up out of their desperate situation, provides them with financial support business knowledge. The teaching program provides them with quality training to become a professional artist business family. With more women trained in the traditional arts, the greater the awareness & preservation of these ancient traditions.
