Restore Pader Land & Livelihoods.

Summary

Jule Cultural Development Foundation will work with 500 farming households in Pader District, Northern Uganda, to restore degraded land and strengthen livelihoods through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), tree restoration and climate-smart agriculture. The project will improve food security, land productivity and resilience to climate change while empowering communities to sustainably manage their natural resources.

Challenge

Farming households in Pader District face declining soil fertility, land degradation, loss of trees and increasing climate variability, resulting in lower agricultural productivity, food security and household incomes. Limited knowledge and adoption of sustainable land management practices further increase pressure on natural resources. Without practical restoration and climate-smart farming approaches, rural households will remain increasingly vulnerable to environmental and economic shocks.

Solution

JCDF will work with 500 farming households in Pader to restore degraded land through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration, tree regeneration and climate-smart agriculture. Farmers will receive practical training, demonstrations and follow-up support to improve soil fertility, protect trees, reduce erosion and increase food production. Community leaders will mobilize households to sustainably manage restored land and strengthen resilience to climate change.

Long-Term Impact

Over time, restored land and improved farming practices will increase food production, household incomes and resilience to climate change. Communities will become better able to manage their natural resources, while regenerated trees and healthier soils improve biodiversity and ecosystem health. The knowledge gained by 500 farming households will also spread to other farmers, creating a wider culture of sustainable land management across Pader District.
