JHF intends to establish a Child-Friendly Space in the IDP Mega Camp Makurdi, which houses 8,000 displaced victims of the Fulani Massacre ("Christian Genocide"). Among them are 1245 children traumatized by loss and violence. This safe haven will provide education, psycho social care, play, and hope, helping children heal and thrive. According to the Benue State Emergency management Agency, over 8,000 displaced persons, including 1,245 children, are living in unsafe environment at IDP Mega Camp Makurdi, following a prolong deadly herder attacks that killed 7,000+ in Benue. Children face trauma, no safe spaces for learning, playing and psychosocial care. These place the children at a high risk for long-term poor health outcomes, developmental failure, and reduced future economic and social stability.
The "Give Joy and Hope to IDP Camp Children in Benue" Campaign by "Julie Helping Hands Foundation" aims to create a safe, structured Child-Friendly Space in the IDP Mega Camp, offering education, play, and psychosocial support to 1,245 displaced children. Trained caregivers will run learning and healing activities, helping children recover from trauma, regain stability, and build resilience, while strengthening family bonds and community protection mechanisms across the 8,000-person camp.
The project will restore social cohesion, Peace-Building, hope and stability for 1,245 children in the camp. Restore Resilience, Mental Health and Improve Cognitive and Educational Outcomes as well as dignity, while protecting the children and empowering their families. This will help break the cycle of violence and prepare a generation of brighter and more resilient future.
