Waking up 6539 from its slumber

The VHA's 6539 fires up on the evening of July 27

Back in July, the VHA's volunteers completed an important task in keeping our locomotive - FP9A #6539 - in good working order. After a long winter slumber and some needed tune-ups, it was time to wake up 6539 and make sure all of the systems were still in proper shape. This is necessary to do every so often to keep the various moving parts functional, and also allows us to identify any issues and items that might need to be repaired or replaced.

It's always a sweet sound to hear that EMD 645 prime mover roar to life. You can find the video of the start up on the VHA's social media pages, and we encourage you to follow us to see these ongoing updates.

We continue to be hard at work on assembling and restoring our VIA heritage train, with our goal of celebrating VIA's 50th anniversary in 2028. #6539 will be an important part of that train, and we appreciate your ongoing support in making sure that it will be in tip top operating shape when the time comes.
