The VIA Historical Association (VHA) recently successfully acquired ex-VIA FP9A locomotive 6539, and we have now repainted it into its iconic VIA Rail blue and yellow livery. All of this is thanks to the generous support of our donors, and the previous owner, the Ontario Southland Railway. Now, we need support to prepare and move the locomotive to our location in Toronto, and maintain this beautiful living piece of history in operating condition.
Now that the VHA has acquired and repainted VIA 6539, we need to prepare and move the locomotive to its new home in Toronto, and keep it in excellent operating condition.
The preparation and move to Toronto will cost around $25,000 CAD (~$18,000 USD), and is necessary to relocate the locomotive with the rest of our preserved equipment. We are also aiming to keep this locomotive in excellent operation condition to eventually operate as part of our VIA heritage train, so we need ongoing support to keep it in top notch shape.
Your support will help preserve an iconic piece of VIA Rail Canada's history in beautiful operating condition, and will allow us to make this locomotive a part of our plan to celebrate VIA's history with Canadians across the country.
