In response to changing weather patterns and anticipated heavy rainfall in the Rwenzori region, Joy for Children Uganda conducted climate awareness and disaster preparedness campaigns in two vulnerable communities in Kasese District.
Our teams sensitised families on flood preparedness, early-warning information and child safety during emergencies. We also educated girls on protecting themselves from sexual exploitation, gender-based violence and other risks, while engaging parents and caregivers on safeguarding children, preventing early marriage and teenage pregnancy, and keeping girls in school despite climate-related challenges.
These efforts address the growing connection between climate shocks and girls’ vulnerability. The State of the World’s Girls 2026 findings highlighted in the shared infographic indicate that 9 in 10 girls surveyed reported pressure on their households from climate events, while 36% noticed an increase in child marriage and 33% noticed more unintended pregnancies in their communities.
Thanks you our supporters, we are strengthening community preparedness and promoting safer environments where girls can continue their education and thrive despite climate-related challenges.
