Hope Builders: Restoring Classrooms in Rural Tombel

By Janet Sama | Project Leader

Dear friends and supporters,
We are delighted to share an encouraging update from the Hope Builders project, an initiative led by Hope Spring for All Nations to improve learning conditions for children in rural communities in Tombel, Southwest Cameroon.
With the support of our partners and the commitment of our team, we recently constructed and delivered 30 classroom benches to a school in Nsuke. These benches are already transforming the learning environment for many pupils who previously had to sit on the floor or on broken wooden pieces during lessons.
A Transformational Moment for Students
Before the benches were installed, classrooms were overcrowded and lacked adequate seating. Some children had to stand during class, while others struggled to follow lessons while seated on the bare floor. These conditions made learning difficult and affected the confidence and motivation of many pupils.
Today, the situation is improving.
With the 30 newly installed benches, students can now sit comfortably and focus on their lessons. Teachers report that classrooms are now more organized, participation has improved, and pupils are more attentive during teaching sessions.
One teacher shared:
"Before the benches arrived, some children had to stand during lessons or sit on the floor. The new benches have brought life back into the classroom. Pupils are more engaged, they come earlier to school, and they feel respected."
Parents in the community have also expressed appreciation. Several families shared that seeing improvements in the classrooms is motivating children to attend school more regularly.
Community Support Made This Possible
This achievement reflects the power of collaboration and community commitment.
We extend our sincere appreciation to:
The Nsuke community for their cooperation and encouragement
The school administration and teachers for their dedication to education
The HSFAN Board of Directors, whose support helped make the construction of these 30 benches possible
Together, these efforts demonstrate how community partnerships can create meaningful change for children.
The Work Is Not Yet Finished
While we celebrate this important milestone, many schools in Tombel still face serious challenges. Several classrooms across rural communities still lack basic furniture and sanitation facilities, forcing students to learn under difficult conditions.
Unfortunately, the project has slowed in recent months due to limited funding. Many children are still waiting for safe and comfortable classroom seating.
With additional support, we hope to:
Provide more classroom benches for underserved schools
Improve basic sanitation facilities for students
Create safe, dignified, and inclusive learning environments for children across rural Tombel
Looking Ahead
The successful delivery and handover of these 30 classroom benches demonstrates our continued commitment to improving education and strengthening community development in Nsuke.
Every bench placed in a classroom represents dignity, opportunity, and hope for a child.
With your continued support, we can reach more schools and ensure that no child has to learn while sitting on the floor.
Thank you for standing with us and helping create better learning environments for children in rural Cameroon.
Warm regards,
