Hope Builders: Restoring Classrooms in Rural Tombel

By Janet Sama | Project Leader

Dear friends and supporters,

We are pleased to share an update on the progress of the Hope Builders project. Your support continues to bring real change to children and teachers in the rural communities of Tombel, Southwest Cameroon.

Recently, our team delivered newly constructed classroom benches to schools in Nsuke. For many children, this was the first time they could sit on safe and comfortable benches instead of the floor. The reactions from pupils and teachers were immediate. Classrooms that once felt overcrowded and tense are now more organised, welcoming, and conducive to learning.

These benches are already improving daily school life. Students are more attentive during lessons, and teachers report a more orderly learning environment. Parents have also expressed pride in seeing their children learn in better conditions. Some out-of-school children have shown interest in returning because they see real improvements in their classrooms.

This work would not be possible without the support we receive from the community. We extend our sincere thanks to the Nsuke community for their collaboration, to the school administration and teachers for their dedication, and to the HSFAN Board of Directors for sponsoring the construction of the benches.

A teacher in one of the classrooms shared that before the benches arrived, children often stood or sat on broken pieces of wood. She told us that the new benches have brought energy back into the classroom. The pupils come to school earlier, they participate more, and they feel valued.

While we celebrate this progress, the project is not yet complete. We have not received new funding in the past months, which has slowed our ability to reach the remaining schools. Many children in Tombel are still waiting for improved seating and basic sanitation facilities.

The successful delivery and handover of these benches shows our commitment to improving education and community development in Nsuke. We look forward to continuing this work and expanding our impact as soon as additional support becomes available.

Thank you for standing with us and helping create a better learning environment for these children.

Warm regards,
