It's time to share with all of you important updates on the case:
1. On 12 June 2024, we presented the 10 years of investigations in Cerro de Pasco during an online webinar together with the participation of Dr. Marcos Orellana - United Nations Special Rapporteur on toxic substances and human rights, Dr. Walter Contreras - Head of the Heavy Metals Unit Ministry of Health (Peru), and the Lawyer Julio Rupay Malpartida - Provincial Mayor of Cerro de Pasco.
>> You can watch the registration of the webinar here.
2. In 2022, the international organization Earth Rights International (ERI), a non-profit non-governmental organization that combines the power of law and people in defense of human rights and the environment, joins our work team with legal advice and proposes to the Municipal Council of the Simón Bolívar District, in Cerro de Pasco, to initiate a civil lawsuit against the mining company for environmental damage caused by mining in the Simón Bolívar district; a process that the Municipal Council has ultimately decided not to undertake.
3. In a couple of weeks we will travel back to Cerro de Pasco to start a new project there with the young association Red Interquorum Pasco, a project financed by Operation Daywork to support and empower the young activists and students to raise public awareness on human rights violations and environmental pollution demanding local authorities to intervene to save their future urgently!
During the mission, we will present the scientific results of the last investigation developed in August 2023.
You can access and download the full report here.
We will keep you all updated during our mission in Peru!
Thank you so much to support our case and work!
