Finally, a bit of light for the people of Cerro de Pasco.
A few months ago our Executive Director Flaviano Bianchini spoke to the Parliament of Peru highlighting the tremendous condition of pollution in the area of Cerro de Pasco, and particularly the pollution of the rio Ragra. He showed how the water discharge of the mine goes directly into the river and affect the quality of its water and how, over more than 10 years of analysis the rio Ragra has always shown concentrations of heavy metals up to 100 times over the limits.
As a consequence of this action a parliamentary commission has been created in order to address this situation.
The commission met a few times and last month they reported to the entire Parliament and, as a result of it, the Minister of Environment approved a decree for the remediation of rio Ragra!
This is the first time the Parliament of Peru approves a direct plan for clean-up the environmental crime that is happening in Cerro de Pasco and it has been possible thanks to your support!
