Here is a donor-friendly update you can submit for "Restore Dignity of 500 Street Mothers in Kenya – Project #68479":

Tell Us How Your Project Is Going

We are pleased to share significant progress in our efforts to restore dignity, hope, and sustainable livelihoods for street-connected mothers and their children in Kenya. Through the support of our partners and donors, the project continues to transform lives by addressing immediate needs while creating pathways toward long-term self-reliance.

Key AchievementsRescue and Rehabilitation

Since the project's inception, we have successfully reached and supported hundreds of vulnerable mothers living on the streets and in unsafe environments. Mothers and their children have been provided with safe shelter, nutritious meals, clothing, medical care, and psychosocial support through our Kusitawi Village Mother and Child Rehabilitation Programme. Recent reports indicate that 193 mothers and children have been rescued and enrolled in rehabilitation services. (globalgiving.org)

Skills Development and Economic Empowerment

Vocational training remains a cornerstone of the project. Mothers have enrolled in marketable skills including hair and beauty, tailoring, fashion design, food production, and entrepreneurship. Earlier project updates reported that 120 mothers were enrolled in vocational training while others participated in financial literacy and business development sessions. Several beneficiaries have already launched small businesses through seed capital support and mentorship. (globalgiving.org)

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

Many street mothers have experienced trauma, violence, and social exclusion. Through counseling, peer support groups, and life-skills training, beneficiaries are rebuilding confidence and restoring hope. Weekly therapy and psychosocial support sessions continue to help mothers heal and prepare for reintegration into society. (globalgiving.org)

Child Protection and Daycare Services

The project has strengthened daycare services for children whose mothers are undergoing rehabilitation and training. This ensures children receive protection, nutrition, early learning opportunities, and a safe environment while their mothers work toward independence. (globalgiving.org)

Community Reintegration

A growing number of mothers have successfully transitioned from rehabilitation into community life. Reintegration efforts include family tracing, parenting support, mentorship, and follow-up visits to ensure lasting stability. Beneficiaries are returning to their communities with renewed confidence, skills, and income-generating opportunities. (globalgiving.org)

Impact

The project is already demonstrating meaningful change:

  • Increased self-esteem and confidence among participating mothers.

  • Improved access to healthcare, counseling, and social support services.

  • Reduction in harmful survival behaviors as mothers engage in training and income generation.

  • New small businesses providing daily income for vulnerable families.

  • Improved wellbeing and protection for children living with their mothers. (globalgiving.org)

Challenges

Despite these achievements, the need remains overwhelming. We continue to face:

  • Limited resources compared to the number of mothers seeking support.

  • Rising healthcare and mental health needs among beneficiaries.

  • Demand for expanded childcare facilities to enable greater participation in training.

  • The need for additional seed capital and business mentorship opportunities.

Looking Ahead

In the coming months, we aim to:

  • Enroll additional mothers into vocational and entrepreneurship training.

  • Expand healthcare and mental health partnerships.

  • Strengthen daycare and child protection services.

  • Increase access to seed capital and mentorship for small business development.

  • Reach more street-connected mothers and children across vulnerable communities in Kenya.

Thank You

None of this progress would be possible without the generosity of our donors and supporters. Every contribution is helping restore dignity, strengthen families, and create sustainable futures for mothers and children who once had nowhere to turn. Together, we are proving that with opportunity, support, and compassion, lives can be transformed.

On behalf of Watoto Wenye Nguvu, thank you for standing with us in restoring dignity and hope to street mothers in Kenya.
