Challenge

The Democratic Republic of Congo is affected by Disaster especially flooding, since 2021 most the cities that near lakes are flooded and this has affected people. However victims that are remote places where Cameras do not reach are not covered and their situation is not known, many has suffered in silence and their homes have been destroyed every December and April of each year when we experience a lot of rain in DRC. Kalengera village located at about 20 Km from Kalemie City is affected also.

Solution

This project will support people's resilience to rebuild their lives and start a new life where they are living now. It will offer food as people wait to harvest, it will improve housing, it will promote hygiene through the construction of good toilets, increase access to clean water for drinking and cooking, and will offer first aid medicine to the community through a mobile health center, and lastly will provide scholastic materials to children who are going to school.

Long-Term Impact

It should ensure that this time houses are constructed in areas that are safe especially on hills and promote livelihood activities in order to reduce poverty among the most vulnerable. Once again we have observed the linkage with the vulnerability and poverty, in Kalengera those who were already poor before are the most affected up to now and the most in need. Poverty is one among the big problem of the population in DRC, despite that the country is rich, but people are too poor.
