In Coast of Indian Ocean at Tanga region in Tanzania,Mangrove plants has been essential to reduce coastal erosion, there has been massive destruction of Mangrove.The goal of the project is to plant 10,000 Mangroves and restore 4 hectares mangrove greenbelt through planting and regeneration of mangrove in cooperation with local people for coastal protection, mangrove integrated livelihoods improvement and biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation and safety of the coast.
A total of 40% of the mangrove forests have been reduced since 2000s from the Coast of Indian Ocean because of excessive human activities and every year,huge mangroves are decreasing. Tanga coastal region is at dangerous position of losing its origin due to climate change and increase in diverseness of human activities. As a result, climate change impact is accelerating the volume of vulnerability of the coastal communities due to shortage and decrease of mangroves along coast of Indian Ocean.
Throughout this initiative, looking to cover 4 hectares of Mangrove forest along the Indian Ocean coast will be created by regenerating of 10,000 mangroves together with local people in terms of biodiversity, coastal protection, Mangrove-based livelihoods promotion as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation and education provision to ensure Ultimum safety of the coast.
10,000 Mangroves will restrict migration of people to coast by reducing river bank erosion and protect the community from other natural calamities.Mangroves will have social effects and environmental impacts.These mangroves will contribute to reduce the poverty of the coastal people through increase of fish production. The community will use dried branches and timber of those mangroves as fuel wood. Tanga community will keep Mangroves as they provide full potential to daily life.
