On April 25, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal. Initial reports indicate that more than 1,200 people have been killed and thousands more injured. With the death toll rising and reports of extensive damage we are concerned the loss of life and livelihoods could be very significant. There is an urgent humanitarian emergency that requires both immediate response and a longer term recovery plan.

As a leading responder to global emergencies, Mercy Corps has a team on the ground assessing and preparing a response to the massive earthquake in Nepal. Those affected will likely need food, water and temporary shelter in the near term and Mercy Corps will respond appropriately.

Long-Term Impact

Coming out of the immediate disaster in Nepal, communities will need support getting back on their feet: rebuilding homes and schools, returning to work and processing the trauma. With a team on the ground, Mercy Corps' team on the ground will connect people to the resources they need to survive and help their communities thrive.
